Gerald Bowman is an 82-year-old Navy veteran in Elkins, Arkansas. (--Elkins is 170 miles northwest of Little Rock.)
--He served for four years in the engine room of the USS Laffey . . . including three tours of duty in the Korean War, 60 years ago.
--Now he suffers from congestive heart failure, and his doctors say he has less than a year to live. So a charity called the Dream Foundation helped to grant his final wish.
--Last Friday, Gerald and his daughter Kim traveled to Charleston, South Carolina, where the USS Laffey is docked off the coast as part of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.
--And Gerald was able to walk on the deck of his old ship one last time.
