After a hiatus of over two decades, the power duo of Dee Burleson and Delia Gonzales, known as Culturas, has made a triumphant return with their latest album, “92/24”. The album, which features 11 tracks of new music, marks a significant milestone in the duo’s career, showcasing their unique style and undeniable chemistry.

Eight of the songs on the album were penned by Delia Gonzales, while two were written by Juanita Chapa, a songwriter from South Texas. The album is a testament to the versatility of Culturas, featuring a balanced mix of cumbias, polkas, and rancheras.

Among the standout tracks is a tribute to their longtime friend and accordion player, Candor “The Candyman” Tovar. The tribute includes polkas written by The Candyman himself, such as “Cruisin with the Candyman” and “The Candyman’s Jam”, which feature Ernie Gonzales on the accordion.

Another notable track is “Regalo de Amor”, a song written by Delia for her close friend Emma Martinez. In the interlude to “Regalo de Amor”, Delia recounts how Emma was her kidney donor when she underwent a transplant in 2008. Delia shares, “This song was inspired by the love and appreciation I have for Emma.”

The album also includes “Party Zone”, a high-energy cumbia with lyrics in both English and Spanish, guaranteed to get any party started.

For this new venture, Culturas entrusted the expertise of two-time Latin Grammy-winning producer and engineer Ernie Gonzales and his team. The album was recorded in San Antonio, Texas at Reel Tracks Studio, and in Nashville, Tennessee at Blackbird Studio. It was mixed by Ernie Gonzales and Teddy Martinez.

“I hope that the fans like it just as much as the old Culturas songs and we’re trying to kind of stay with what’s new now and incorporate some of the Culturas tastes and flavors,” Delia told The Three Amigos Podcast. “We hope to be able to give the fans what they expect because that’s the intimidation part of it all, is the expectations.”
