Francisco Javier Galvan, better known as the Tejano singer and former lead vocalist for legendary band Fama, has accepted a plea deal for the charges of three counts of intoxication manslaughter with a deadly weapon and two counts of intoxication assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to the Runnels County Clerk’s Office.
The charges stem from a fatal accident that occurred on June 13, 2021, when Galvan was driving under the influence of alcohol and crashed his vehicle into another car on a highway near Winters, Texas. The collision killed Addy Rae Muniz, 7, Cissy Ramos, 46, and Marissa Ramos, 20, who were in the other car. Two other passengers in the vehicle were also injured.
According to MyFoxZone.com, Runnels County District Clerk Tammy Burleson said Galvan was sentenced to 15 years on the three intoxication manslaughter charges, to run concurrently. For the final two charges, intoxication assault, he was sentenced to 10 years to run concurrently. In total, the sentence was 15 years in prison with eligibility for parole halfway through the sentence.
Burleson expects Galvan to be detained in the Taylor County Jail until paperwork is filed, and is unsure of which prison facility he will be sent to after the paperwork is complete.
Galvan was a popular Tejano singer who rose to fame in the 1990s as the frontman of Fama, a band that won several awards and nominations, including a Grammy nomination in 1999. He also had a solo career and released several albums. He decided to retire in 2009 to spend more time with his family and pursue a calling to serve the Lord as a full-time Christian minister. His ministry work took him throughout the United States, Mexico, Central America and South America.
