Los Cucuys de Rodney Rodriguez bring Conjunto track ‘Tanto Tanto’

AUSTIN, TX — Veteran Conjunto musician Rodney Rodriguez has released “Tanto Tanto,” the lead single and title track from his forthcoming album, which is due out on digital, CD, and Vinyl LP in late April 2023, on Austin-based Rancho Alegre Records.

“Tanto Tanto” is a classic-sounding, unmistakably hardcore Conjunto track, featuring smooth vocals, complimented by elegant, melodic accordion, with the beat of the bajo sexto, bass, and drums almost propelling the listener from your chair to the dance floor. Written by Esteban Navarrete, who also penned the Conjunto classic “La Mesera,” “Tanto Tanto” has been performed by various groups, including a mariachi version by Dueto Sanchez in the 1940s and by Conjunto de Lorenzo Hernandez in the 1970s.

Despite having nearly 25 years of experience, including over 15 years with the legendary Los Fantasmas Del Valle before forming Los Cucuys, Rodriguez won’t turn 40 until next year. This experience, along with his voracious appetite for the classic Conjunto of standard bearers like Gilberto PerezRuben VelaTony De La Rosa, and Ruben Naranjo, makes Rodriguez a bit of a throwback, informing everything from his song selection to their live shows. On stage, for example, he and his band often forego the casual or western attire often seen with younger groups, opting for classic suits, vests and button-up shirts, and shiny Stacey Adams, and he plays his accordion with finesse instead of flash.

“Tanto Tanto” is available on all digital platforms and for more information including the tour schedule (they’ll be at El Social in Houston on Feb. 25), follow the band on Facebook: https://www. facebook.com/ LosCucuysDeRodneyRodriguez
