Linda Escobar’s El Veterano Conjunto Festival postponed over COVID-19

The annualEl Veterano Conjunto Festivalhonoring veterans, a Conjunto legend, and young musicians scheduled for November 7, 2021, in Robstown, Texas, has been postponed over COVID-19 concerns, organizers announced on Monday (Oct. 4).

The announcement was madein a social media post, “As you may know, El Veterano Conjunto Festival is an indoor event. The COVID-19 numbers had spiked up again and many are immune-compromised, as is our founder Ms. Linda Escobar, who was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer in July of this year. After much thought and consideration, El Veterano Conjunto Festival committee members have decided to postpone our event until Sunday, February 6, 2022, for the safety of everyone.”

The Conjunto music showcase, founded byLinda Escobarover 20 years ago in tribute to her father, Conjunto legendEligio Escobar, not only honors veterans but shines a spotlight on the future of the Conjunto Tejano genre awarding over 60 scholarships for young musicians.

The event will take place on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Columbian Civic Center (formerly KC Hall) in Robstown, Texas featuring performances from some of today’s hottest Conjunto bands from across Texas, as well as past scholarship recipients. The accordion raffle is also rescheduled for the same date.
