My Tejano Awards showcasing the past, present and future of Tejano music

The second annualMy Tejano Awardswill showcase the past, present and future of Tejano music at the Mission Event Center in Mission, Texas on Sunday, May 19.

The show, presented by the Tejano Music Hall of Fame Awards, will feature appearances and performers from over 200 bands and recognize the best of South Texas, including the legendaryFreddie Martinez,Jay Perez,Lucky Joe,Stevie D,Monica Saldivarand more.

“Here in the Valley we have a lot of talent; it’s just not recognized,” M&E Productions co-owner Estela Florestold Progress Times. “We’re hoping to change that.”

Awards will be given in 14 categories including Album of the Year, Male and Female Vocalists, Top Collaboration, Top Video, Gone But Not Forgotten, Lifetime Achievement and more.

“This is something for the artist here in the Valley,” Flores added. “No one gets recognized in the Valley even though a lot of Tejano music started here and evolved here. San Antonio has their own Tejano music awards, but we needed to recognize Tejano music here.”

My Tejano Awards will feature tributes for two late Tejano legends, one forLaura CanalesbyIsabel Marie Sanchez, and another forJimmy GonzalezbyCristina SalinasandJose Angel.

The event will take place at the Mission Event Center, located at 200 N. Shary Road in Mission, Texas. General admission tickets are priced at $20 with reserved tickets for $25 and VIP tickets priced at $35.
