Tejano music icon Shelly Lares celebrated 36 years in the Tejano music industry on Tuesday (October 16).

The Tejano Music Hall of Famer, known to fans as “Little Miss Dynamite,” talked to Tejano Nationabout her longevity in the music business.

“Thirty-six years ago I started doing what I love, which is singing and performing Tejano music professionally and this has been my biggest accomplishment,” she said. “The longevity and the stamina has been my biggest accomplishment, because without that I don’t have any accolades, I would not continue to have accolades or be able to achieve the goals I have set for myself in the near future.”

Lares began her music career at a very young age and has released many albums in her almost four decades in the music industry.

“For me to be here, still after 36 years, speaks volumes for me, I think as a performer, as an entertainer and vocalist and I’m just so unbelievably blessed to be here,” she added.

Starting in 1984, Lares was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year for thirteen consecutive years and won several other awards at the Tejano Music Awards throughout her career.

“I’m very proud to say I’ve been doing it for so long,” she said. “I’m very proud to represent Tejano music, that I love so much and the fans are wanting to still hear my music, they still want me to create, they still want to see my shows, and gaining new fans is just the icing on the cake for me, because I’m introducing myself to a whole new generation of Tejano fans.”

Lares is known for her “talent and charismatic stage presence and strong voice,” according to AllMusic. The talented singer, songwriter, percussionist and producer is currently in the studio working on a new album. Tejano Nation will have more details on the new album soon.
