Tejano music legend Selena was honored with a Google Doodle tribute on Tuesday to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the release of her self-titled debut album.
The album Selena was released on October 17, 1989 and Google is celebrating with an animated Google Doodle featuring her song “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.”
Selena’s family worked with the Google team for research surrounding the two-year process of creating the animated clip, Billboard reports.
“Google came to us with this idea of telling a story,” Suzette Quintanilla told Billboard of the family’s partnership. “The little girl who had a dream and she became who she became. They already had the content pretty much done, but they knew that family was everything. The little details I gave…That Selena had red nail polish on instead of bright pink. That she had hoop earrings. They even put red on the microphone the way she used to have it.”
Google have also shared a special digital exhibit celebrating the life of Selena; it’s a collaboration with the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Selena became the first Latino singer to debut at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and continues to inspire many artists across all music genres. She made international headlines when she was murdered by Yolanda Saldivar, the founder of the Selena fan club in 1995.
